Echocardiographic features of pre- and postcapillary pulmonary hypertension with a focus on the right ventricle in dogs

ABSTRACT: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) in dogs is a syndrome that can occur secondary to several causes, including left heart disease (postcapillary) and chronic respiratory (precapillary). This study evaluates morphological functional consequences the right ventricle (RV) of with pre- postcapillary PH through echocardiography, also considers severity (mild, moderate or severe). Echocardiography was performed on 66 various breeds weights (age >3 years old) which were assigned three groups: PH, included mitral valve disease/endocardiosis, precapillary diseases (bronchitis, collapse trachea primary lung cancer metastasis), finally, healthy group controls.
